A professional institute for the engineering-economics of authority over synthetic systems.
ARENOMICS Institute is an independent initiative in development, initiated in 2026. Its mission is to create the professional class capable of governing, verifying and holding authority over synthetic cognitive production, so that autonomous systems operate under legitimate mandate rather than by default.
Thesis
The centre of gravity of cognitive production is moving from human labour to systems that plan, decide, use tools, delegate and act. What follows is not that people become obsolete but that human authority — the capacity to legitimately mandate, verify, hold accountable and revoke — becomes the scarce and consequential competence. That competence requires a discipline that does not yet exist as one: an engineering-economics of mandate, verification and residual risk over synthetic systems.
Technical capability is moving faster than the arrangements that make its use legitimate — governance, accountability, evidence and education. This is the Institute's conclusion, not an evidenced finding; the closed Design Pilot it is preparing is the first controlled test of it.
Four things the Institute is not
- Not another AI school.
- Not a prompt-engineering academy.
- Not a coding bootcamp.
- Not a future-of-work consultancy.
The authority layer
Six functions the Institute studies and intends to professionalise.
- Mandating
- What a system may do, for whom, under what limits
- Bounding
- Budget, risk limits and prohibited actions
- Delegating
- How authority propagates through agents and sub-agents
- Verifying
- Accepting work from a system that may exceed its verifier
- Governing
- Accountability, liability and oversight at portfolio scale
- Revoking
- When and how machine authority is suspended or ended
Four proposed Schools
The Institute's intended structure. No School has operating faculty, enrolled learners or graduates. The first programme sits in the School of Mandate & Delegation.
School of Mandate & Delegation
Mandate engineering; delegation architecture; agent identity and authority; escalation and revocation; the competence of the legally mandated human overseer.
School of Verification & Evidence
Agent evaluation; evidence architecture; AI audit; safety cases; model risk; verifiable synthetic work; independent verification.
School of Synthetic Enterprise & Organisation
Synthetic enterprise architecture; human–agent organisational design; autonomous workflow architecture; agent fleets; synthetic labour economics; machine-to-machine commerce.
School of Agent Governance
Governance frameworks; compliance; standards; risk allocation; insurance and liability; board- and regulator-level governance.
Five levels — a conceptual ladder
Build · Operate · Govern, not know, explain, recall. Only the Foundation level has a specified programme; the other levels are conceptual and have no programme, cohort or credential.
| Level | Name | Duration (conceptual) | Can build, operate or govern | State |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Foundation | 4–8 weeks | Operate a single agent under a stated mandate with logged supervision evidence — at Foundation, operation is sandboxed, simulated or genuinely low-risk and reversible | Programme specified; in development |
| 2 | Operator | ~3 months | Operate multi-agent workflows under budget, escalation and revocation controls | Conceptual |
| 3 | Architect | 6–9 months part-time | Design and deploy an agentic system with signed policy, identity and a verifiable evidence pipeline | Conceptual |
| 4 | Governor | 9–12 months | Govern portfolios of autonomous systems belonging to others: audit, adjudicate, revoke, sign, testify | Conceptual |
| 5 | Fellow — conceptual level; no fellows appointed | Rolling | Contribute to the discipline itself: standards, methods, published evidence, teaching | Conceptual |
What the Institute does, and the state of each function
| Function | Description | Present state |
|---|---|---|
| Professional education | Cohort-based, assessed programmes in the authority layer | In development — first programme complete at development-draft level; no cohort has run |
| Assessed programmes | Outcomes that depend on produced, verifiable work | In development — assessment architecture designed; unvalidated |
| Professional capabilities and roles | Definition of the competences and roles the authority layer requires | In development — roles proposed; none recognised |
| Mandate Package and Evidence Record methodology | A versioned set of linked artefacts and an evidence index a stranger can audit | Exists at development-draft level |
| Professional standards | Versioned, criticisable public standards | Planned — none exists |
| Applied research | Research that feeds and tests the programmes | Planned — no Institute research output yet |
| Case-based simulations | Fictional, controlled teaching cases with layered evidence | Exists at development-draft level — four cases |
| Assessor and second-reader system | First assessor, independent second reader, moderation, external review | In development — instruments designed; no assessor or second reader appointed |
| Organisational and in-house programmes | Programmes for organisations adopting agent groups | Planned — no offer |
| Physical studio and residencies | Professional residencies, executive programmes and institutional programmes at the Phu Quoc Founding Studio | Active founding project at Meyhomes Capital Phu Quoc — premises selection and cohort formation underway on location; expressions of interest open; dates confirmed with accepted participants |
Physical presence: the Phu Quoc Founding Studio is being established within Meyhomes Capital Phu Quoc, Vietnam; premises selection and cohort formation are underway and expressions of interest are open. Phu Quoc Founding Studio.
Governance roles — Programme Lead for paid cohorts, facilitators, assessors, an External Reviewer and a founding fellowship — are proposed and, apart from the founder acting as Programme Lead for the closed Design Pilot only, not appointed. No accreditation exists or is claimed; the current architecture is non-degree.
Programme enquiries
The Institute corresponds with practitioners, organisations, standards bodies, regulators, insurers and prospective participants who see the same gap. There is no application, enrolment or payment form; early interest registration opens shortly; enquiries are answered by e-mail.
