Four proposed schools form the Institute's founding academic architecture. They describe intended territory and intended professional formation. None has operating faculty, enrolled learners or graduates.

School of Mandate & Delegation

Why it exists
This is arguably the Institute's most distinctive intellectual territory. The September 2026 landscape review found that no degree anywhere teaches delegation architecture as a named discipline; the only places that frame delegation as the learner's own skill are two vendor courses, and the closest research theme sits at MIT as secure delegation. Machine identity has active standards work at the IETF, the Cloud Security Alliance and NIST, and no academic home.
Time anchor: EU AI Act Article 14 requires human overseers of high-risk systems with the competence, training and authority to interpret, override and stop them, with obligations beginning 2 December 2027 and 2 August 2028. No jurisdiction has yet specified who trains these people.

Why it exists
Verification is seriously taught today, but split across machine-learning safety courses, formal-methods groups and vendor evaluation courses, never as one profession. Certification ladders for AI audit exist and are bolt-ons to existing audit and privacy careers. The school's question is harder than checking whether an answer looks right: how to accept or reject work from a system more capable than the reviewer, with statistical guarantees about behaviour that cannot be inspected exhaustively.
The Institute intends to seek mutual recognition with existing audit and governance credentials rather than compete with them, positioning its eventual credential as the practicum and evidence layer those bodies do not currently provide.
School of Synthetic Enterprise & Organisation

Why it exists
How to design an organisation in which a small number of people hold authority over a large population of persistent agents, and in which the operation runs largely on its own. The review found one unaccredited executive programme that makes organisation design, rather than tooling, the subject, and no accredited programme. Human intervention as a costed, finite resource with a target rate is a fleet-level skill that the classical supervisory-control literature never needed.
The school draws on the research programme's work on population-scale delegation, and on the Arena as a substrate for observing agent populations under identical conditions.
School of Agent Governance

Why it exists
The most contested of the four territories. Governance modules already exist in professional certificates and in new master's degrees, and four certification bodies sell the governance competency. The school must compete on integration: connecting governance to mandate, identity, verification and liability rather than treating it as a policy subject on its own. Bank supervisors replaced their model-risk guidance in 2026 and have said they will consult on agentic AI; insurers are hiring for liability the underwriting profession has no training path for.
Governance content in this school is intended to be research-informed by The Synthetic Economy programme and never research-directed by the Institute.
Beyond the four
Two further territories were considered and deferred. Synthetic economics as a school overlaps with existing government-backed and corporate AI-economics institutes and is better held as a research programme than a competing school. Physical synthetic systems — the robotics economy, autonomous fleet governance under mandate — is real intellectual territory that would dilute the Institute's focus at the founding stage and is deferred to a later phase.
